Rhinoplasty is the operation in which the nose is reshaped. Thanks to this operation, while the external appearance of the nose changes, there is no change in its functional properties. Rhinoplasty is divided into two as closed and open. In the Open Rhinoplasty, the surgeon performs the operation by cutting the area between the two nostrils and one more place inside the nose. There is no cutting operation in closed nose surgery as in open nose surgery. Absence of this operation in closed surgery shows faster results than open surgery. In pre-consultation, before the rhinoplasty operation, it is decided whether the operation will be open or closed.

Why and to Whom is Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Performed?

One of the reasons why nose surgery performed is one’s aesthetic concerns. Aside from appearances when it comes to cases like broken nose or dislocated nose, we can also perform surgery. Besides these, airway obstructions and breathing problems can be counted as such. Rhinoplasty is not performed before the age of 18. One of the main reasons for this is that Rhinoplasty can be performed after the end of the person’s developmental age. In order for the surgery to be performed, the development must be completed and the nose must have taken its final shape.

    Risks and Complications

Rhinoplasty and nose correction operations usually proceeds without complications. Some patients after the surgery only complains about numbness around upper lip, cheek and the nose. On the contrary hypersensitivity may occur in these areas. However, these after-effects only last a few weeks and subside themselves. Complications such as infections, bleeding or an impairment of nerve tracts are mentioned as possible side effects, but they hardly ever occur. Even if they occur it can be treated directly in the clinic without any problems, so that no late effects are to be expected.

Pre-consultation before the Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

Internal and external consultation are performed by our surgeons before the operation. These examinations are carried out by considering the aesthetic angles of the nose either. After examining the inner part of the nose, nasal valves and nasal septum, external aesthetic parts such as the tip of the nose are carefully analyzed.

    After the Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

The patient stays in our hospital for one night as a precautionary measure. Temporary swelling and bruises can be seen on the face after the operation. These swelling and bruises begin to disappear within 1 week and complete recovery may take between 1 and 3 months. If there is any bleeding, it will occur as small trickle of blood. Likewise, after Rhinoplasty, there may be very little loss of your sense of smell during this recovery period, and this problem will disappear when the nose completely healed.
