Breast enlargement surgery, also called breast augmentation, is a surgical operation performed to increase the volume of the breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is a common breast surgery designed to increase the size of small or asymmetrical breasts. In this operation, breast implants are placed under the breast tissue or breast muscles.
Why and to Whom is Breast Enlargement performed?
Deformation of the breasts through pregnancy and lactation, age-related flaccidity, asymmetric or too small breasts, deformation after major weight loss are among the reasons for breast augmentation surgery. Apart from these, breast augmentation surgery can be performed after breast cancer surgery. The natural growth of the breasts is only completed at the age of 18 and should not be interrupted until then so the surgery candidates have to be over 18.
Risks and Complications
In the Breast Enlargement operation, the implants are guaranteed for a lifetime. Implant rupture, which is called rupture or leakage of the implant inserted after the implant is inserted, is a rare condition. In addition, weight gain or loss after surgery may cause changes in the appearance of the breasts. However, breasts will continue to change with age. Such problems should bring to mind the possibility of a further surgical intervention in the future.
Pre-consultation Before Breast Enlargement
Before breast augmentation surgery, the plastic surgeon is going to discuss with regard to the size, feel, and appearance preferences with you. Your surgeon will examine your breast structure, and will present you with different types of implants that are flat, textured, round or teardrop-shaped, containing saline or silicone gel, and surgical techniques that are suitable for you. If you smoke, it is recommended that you quit before surgery. Apart from this, you should inform your surgeon of all medications you use during your interview. If these medications include medicines such as blood thinners or painkillers, your doctor may ask you to stop them before surgery.
After Breast Enlargement
Pain and swelling may occur several weeks after surgery. Bruising may be observed. Scars fade over time, but may not disappear completely. While healing, it is necessary to wear a compression bandage or sports bra to provide extra support to the breast implants and maintain their positioning. Your surgeon will recommend the required bra to you. Pain control can be easily controlled with pain medications prescribed by our physician. If you do not have a physically demanding job that requires your body to work actively, you can return to work within a few weeks. You should avoid strenuous activities that increase your heart rate or blood pressure for at least two weeks. As you heal, keep in mind that your breasts will be sensitive to physical contact or jolting movements.
